Practices

Financial Services and Real Property Litigation Group

KRISTA COTTER RANTA brings valuable management perspectives and insights to representing corporate and commercial clients in a wide range of civil litigation and post-judgment collection matters. Not only is Krista a seasoned and successful advocate, but her experience managing a high-volume law firm for over a decade before joining Maddin Hauser has made her acutely attuned to the pressures, priorities, and challenges her clients face and what they need and expect from their counsel.

Particularly well-versed in state and federal laws affecting the banking and collections industry, Krista has a lengthy track record of creating and implementing effective post-judgment collection strategies through the efficient utilization of judgment creditor entitlements. She has represented clients in all aspects and phases of contested litigation at the trial and appellate levels in state and federal court and alternative dispute resolution proceedings. In addition to her substantial debt collection, creditors’ rights, and bankruptcy work, Krista’s experience includes handling disputes involving contracts, insurance subrogation, and personal injury claims.

With a naturally collaborative spirit, Krista has forged enduring, long-term professional relationships with clients, vendors, co-workers, and management. During her tenure as the managing attorney for a national law firm’s litigation operations throughout the state of Michigan, she was responsible for a litigation portfolio totaling over 12,000 active lawsuits, representing national banking organizations, commercial lenders, and private student loan organizations. This experience helped her refine her case management and staffing skills, ensuring cases were handled in the most cost-efficient way possible without sacrificing the ability to achieve desired outcomes.

A graduate of Western Michigan University, Krista earned her law degree from Michigan State University College of Law, where she served as assistant editor of The Journal of Medicine and Law.
