Maddin on the Move – Q&A Series With Sydney Wright

07.30.24

With Maddin Hauser having moved offices for the first time in 38 years and on the cusp of the firm’s 100th anniversary, our attorneys reflect on our proud history, their professional journeys, and what the future holds for the firm and its clients.

Today, we chat with Sydney Wright, an associate in our Complex Litigation and Risk Advisory and Financial Services and Real Property Litigation groups whose work focuses on general business and contractual disputes, real estate and mortgage litigation, general civil litigation, construction disputes, and financial services matters.

Q: Tell me about your practice and how long you’ve been with Maddin Hauser. What attracted you to the firm, and what do you value or appreciate most about working at MH?

A: I joined Maddin Hauser in November 2021. Before joining the firm, I spent my early years doing no-fault litigation, first representing medical providers before swapping sides and representing auto insurers. What initially attracted me to Maddin Hauser was the fact that it was a mid-size firm with an outstanding reputation for doing sophisticated, high-caliber work and for its professionalism and collegiality.

After working with many of the attorneys here, I can confirm that the reputation is well-earned. My colleagues are wonderful, and the firm offers so many opportunities for young lawyers to hone their crafts, whether that’s building a book of business or becoming specialized in a practice area of interest.

Q: The firm launched an important initiative in 2023, The Maddin Hauser Way, which clearly defines everyone’s shared values and practices, which are the foundation of the firm’s culture. Recognizing that they all are vital, is there one that has more greatly influenced or impacted your practice?

A: It has always impressed me that the firm makes its culture and values such a high priority. The fundamental that has impacted my practice the most is Find a Way. To me, that means “do whatever it takes,” “get it done,” or “figure it out.” As lawyers, we’re rightly expected to be problem solvers for our clients. Time constraints, novel legal issues, and other roadblocks can make finding those solutions challenging. For me, this fundamental speaks to the unique level of dedication and creativity needed from us to deliver results.

Q: The firm recently completed its office move. What aspect of this move are you most excited about?

A: The new space is beautiful and I think everyone is enjoying the added creature comforts. I’m most excited about hosting clients here and having more facetime with my coworkers.

Q: Maddin Hauser will celebrate its 100th anniversary next year. If you had a crystal ball, what would you see in the firm’s future?

A: The move required a huge effort from all corners of the firm, and I think that has provided us with a spark of added momentum. I see the firm continuing to grow, attracting top talent, and expanding its capabilities to better serve our clients.
