MATT MITCHELL, shareholder, is an experienced litigator in the Financial Services and Real Property Litigation group.
He graduated with a degree in economics and political science, summa cum laude, from Grand Valley State University in 2003. In 2006, he earned his Juris Doctor degree from University of Michigan Law School.
Before joining the firm, Matt worked as a compliance attorney at an indirect automotive finance company. He advised the company on regulatory matters and compliance with state and federal consumer financial protection laws, including the Gramm-Leach Bliley Act, Telephone Consumer Protection Act, Truth-in-Lending Act, Equal Credit Opportunity Act, and state consumer protection and retail installment sales laws. Matt also served as the company’s subject matter expert on Fair Credit Reporting Act compliance.
Earlier in his career, Matt worked for a national law firm, specializing in defending banks, mortgage servicers, and finance companies against claims arising under state and federal laws, including the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, Michigan Consumer Protection Act, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and state foreclosure laws. While in private practice, Matt’s peers selected him as one of Michigan’s Rising Stars for 2012-2014 as noted in Michigan Super Lawyers® Magazine.
Matt is admitted to practice in Michigan and the federal courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
